Africa

WE SPECIALIZE in African Rosewood, Mukwa & Rhodesian Teak.  These three species grow in sub-Shaharan countries such as Angola, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.  The trees prefer the sandy soils deposited by the winds that blew off the Kalahari desert eons ago when the desert extended much further north and east than it does today.

ALL OUR TIMBER is selectively harvested, legally purchased from local merchants that are properly licensed, and exported in accordance with all local permitting regulations.  In addition, we support local reforestation efforts and have funded the replanting of over 10,000 trees, approximately 10 times as many as have been harvested as a result of our business.

SCOTT ROCKAFELLOW & JOHN KAUTZ founded our business in Zambia in 2007 to help local Zambians capture a greater proportion of the value of timber resource in their country.  To that end, we employed and trained local people to selectively harvest, mill and dry the lumber and manufacture the furniture.  After six years, we have built a network of skilled suppliers and craftsmen that enable us to bring these unique and beautiful products to the United States at the lowest possible prices.
